Curatorial Essay
- you and me –

In advance, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who came to appreciate the exhibition, and I eagerly hope that the work will heal the tired hearts in difficult times. The goal of this exhibition clickscrollzoom.com is to help people to discover new artists and inform them about their work. An important factor in selecting the artists was communication with appreciators. The theme of the works selected by a curator is related to emotions. Modern people live in a so-called fatigue society. The time has come for people to do their own work and increase their value even if nobody orders or monitors them. All of us who have to whip ourselves to meet the demands of modern times all have a bit of depression and helplessness. In addition, they are going through an unstable period that may enter another society through social distance or government surveillance. I hope that the time of appreciating the work will be comforting and relaxing for a while for those who are having a hard day in an uneasy society. I wish you to share your feelings with the author, sympathize with them, and have a free impression. Seunghyeon Hwang’s work has the advantage of being easily accessible to the public. His work does not need any special interpretation to understand. You can feel the emotions expressed by the character and decide whether you like it or not. Therefore, I wanted to show his works as diverse as possible in a line that does not overflow. I thought that the viewers can become tired or bored if he listed his works up and down in the web exhibition, so it was configured to be able to see the selection of desired works by clicking. Hyunook Kim has an excellent ability to express his philosophy and arts in his works. The curator felt a lot of emotions in his works and was fascinated by their strange and honest charms. His work is characterized by a rough brush touch. If you look closely, you can see the texture of the oil on the canvas, and the texture gives a slight three-dimensional effect and gives you the urge to touch. I wanted to show the artist's brush strokes and textures in detail to those who watched the web exhibition, so I made it so that I could see the work in detail using zoom.

Individual Work Essay
Hyunook Kim is an abstract artist. His work is gloomy and shiny in varied places: he lives life day to day, pouring out the emotions he felt that day into the canvas. It is not important to understand what emotion Hyunook Kim drew with, as there might not be one single emotion. Seeing his work and not understanding the artist's intention, focusing on his feelings through his work, that is Hyunook Kim's intention. One is reminded of the world-famous modern architect Ando Tadao. Like Ando Tadao, who became a revered architect by studying architecture without receiving any university education, Hyunook Kim did not receive an art college education. I expect that he will be a good artist who can be empathized and liked by many members of the public. The series depicts the colors Hyunook Kim saw on that day and the emotions he felt throughout that day. His paintings vary from project to project just like the array of emotions he paints with. He paints with a knife, brush, and fabric. His work, which is closer to ruggedness than delicacy, resembles the artist himself. Nevertheless, his feelings are not all ruggedness, but rather a balance of delicate feelings covered by color. Kim writes:
’I try to leave the color and composition I saw on that day. I select a color as a memory of the day and use it as the expressions. Maintaining and balancing their similarities with each other in an effort to maintain their natural appearance. The color of the background is mixed changing in the layers. Putting a frame around it provides a more stable vision and a more solid feeling to the work itself. The emotion that comes after the completion of the work is close to the result of the effort to return to the zero state rather than the + state. ... Scratching with a knife, blurring the border with a brush, stamping and rubbing with fabric, you can see if there are multiple channels to express through the process of creating different colors. Through this confirmation, we further experience the expectation of the existence of other channels and we are relieved by the hope it brings following these paths and channels. From my personal work, it would be nice if someone thought, 'Yes, I wanted to do something else.'
Hyunook Kim hopes for viewers to create other channels to express their thoughts and feelings like languages. It can be music, it can be a drawing, it can be a dance. And it could be something no one can imagine. I hope you go a step further and create a channel to think about yourself and understand yourself. He tells us that every person is born with different values and that he must find his own values and live to help the world. If you do something that will help the people others in the future, he said, it would be a meaningful life.
