Curatorial Essay
- When it is only for you -

Consolation is difficult. 
It is easy to give and receive the wound, but it is difficult to console.
Emotions such as hurts, sadness, loss, and depression are often treated as inappropriate and undesirable within the society. Therefore, these emotions cannot be left as they are. They must be overcome. To belong, because we have no choice but to belong. 
It is impossible to wallow in the feelings of hurt and sorrow. This is because these feelings are incompatible with the societal values of practicality, efficiency, and productivity. All logic and function are confined in it. Society allows to belong when these feelings are compromised. Consolation exists for compromise and acceptance with society. Without consolation, there is no society.
Consolation from another may reach the situation, but it is not easy for it to reach the heart. True consolation is only possible when it rings from the inside. The consolation that gives you true solace only comes from within. In times of pain, or in connection with the time when the pain can be taken away. 
The work of artist Yon So Young coveys the pain intuitively.
The red and blue paints, repeatedly stroked, are thrown into the artist’s world. The performance of the work seems to reject the healing of the pain. Or, perhaps this performance may be including the meanings of the healing. Everyone has an opinion on your grief.1However, the artist is unbothered, just continuing with the work she has started. 
The artist Heewon Oh’s work invites the viewer to a time decorated by beautiful colors.
Facing the world presented by the artist, the viewer is about to slip into, or slip off, the square canvas. The shines of the surface catch the eyes of those wandering. The physical time loses its control as it is held down by a new timeline sketched by the artist. For those whose ever second is difficult, the artist’s work becomes a new standard of time. 
Everyone’s time runs in its own rate. While this speed is often judged and condemned, it is not something people can rebuke. The consolation found within oneself embraces the unique run of a time, making it comfortable.

Individual Work Essay
Although Yon So Young’s artwork does not define a clear form, the emotions conveyed are direct and clear. Along with the expressions of vibrant colors, the canvas cloth with the thrown paint droops to represent the emotion. The title of the piece, SCAR TISSUE refers to the traces of inflammation that is present when a wound is healing. KALOID, a series of SCAR TISSUE, also refer to an inflammatory reaction that swells from a scar. These scar- and wounds-related artworks, even though the cause of inflammation may be unknown, are intuitively and directly presented to the viewers. 
The artist's work exists, just like the mark left by the wound exists. 
The time of pain portrayed by the artist is implicit. The swelling wound approaches the viewer through the artist's work. Such time of pain and injury is practically paused. The scar takes the viewer to the moment of injury and forces to stay in that moment. Ironically, the moment continues to expand, blocking the present like endless darkness. The work left by the artist wholly embodies the traces of the wound, repeating its course. In a time of retrospection, scars retain their forms so clearly. 
However, the scars in SCAR TISSUE imply the possibility of healing. The repeated brush strokes and the elasticity of the oil paint are like the new flesh that fills the wound. Further brush strokes may be implying the author's own healing. Without any specificity, the artist silently performs the work and leads the audience. Portrayed on the work, the artwork allows us to look back on the traces of the wound. The viewer’s emotions, both hot and cold ones, are aroused in the face of the artist’s work. Such pain is similar to the piercing pain often accompanied by the process of healing. 
Between the pain of wounds and the pain of healing, the artist's work floats and reaches the hearts of the wounded.
